No – of course, I didn’t bring that stone to the police, that’d be absurd.

That’d be the second thing, to be honest with you. I could still walk and had some money on my card – that’s the main reason why I didn’t go to the police after all. No one could take away my right to revenge. I would pull the trigger an infinite number of times: as I fell asleep, as I forced the breakfast down my throat; I was blowing your brains out, as I wrote yet another check to a private eye; I would hear your skull crunching, as I filled my gas tank on my way to yet another city where you’d been. There was only one thought that made me terrified: I rejected it violently, because it made my entire life lose its meaning and created a vacuum in my soul. Once I let it invade my mind, I’d be covered in cold sweat.
